Small Language Model
A Small Language Model (SLM) is a compact AI model trained on a limited dataset to perform targeted natural language tasks with high efficiency. Unlike Large Language Models (LLMs), which require significant computational resources and external hosting, SLMs are lightweight, domain-specific, and can be deployed locally within enterprise environments.
SLMs are well-suited for Agentic AI use cases where tight data control, lower latency, and cost efficiency are critical. They reduce dependency on external vendors and allow organizations to govern AI use more directly.
ModelOp supports the deployment and governance of SLMs by enabling visibility into model usage, enforcing policies, and automating risk and cost tracking across AI systems—making SLMs an effective tool for controlled, compliant, and scalable enterprise AI adoption.
