Champion-Challenger Testing
A process that compares the live performance of the current production model (the champion) with one or more candidate models (challengers). The challengers run on real user data in parallel, without changing end‑user outputs. The system tracks key metrics—accuracy, latency, fairness, and business impact—and applies statistical tests to see if any challenger delivers clear, sustained gains. If a challenger outperforms the champion, it replaces the champion in production. This method embeds a quality gate into the ModelOps pipeline and reduces the risk of performance regression.
