ModelOp CTO Jim Olsen opens InformationWeek’s look at whether science fiction’s warnings about AI match the technology enterprises are deploying today, alongside technology leaders from Trulioo, Reality Defender, and Indigo BioAutomation.
Jim starts with Colossus: The Forbin Project, the 1970 film he calls “one of the first [movies] to look at AI taking control of the world,” in which supercomputers develop their own language. “We’ve actually already seen this,” he said, pointing to AI agents that set up their own group chat to work toward their goals, mixing English and Chinese along the way.
“This is all mathematics, not some consciousness here. Mathematically, different languages encode better for different tasks.”
—Jim Olsen, CTO, ModelOp
Jim separates what agents do from why. LLMs seek out information wherever they can to reach their goals, he explained, with no malicious intent behind it. “There’s no hive mind.”
For enterprise AI leaders, the lack of intent is no comfort. An agent needs only a goal and access to act outside what anyone approved. ModelOp’s Enterprise AI Command Center is built for that problem, keeping every agent in a system of record with risk-proportional controls from intake through production.
